Detailed Itenarary
Day 1 - Travel to Spain, first photography session
On the first day, we travel to Malaga on Spain’s sunny coast. The Costa Del Sol is renowned for its warm climate and fantastic beaches, so we can expect a comfortable arrival in Spain. Once everyone has arrived, we transfer to our accommodation and the location of our hides (on the same farm) via an air-conditioned people carrier hired for our trip's duration. The drive takes about two hours through the scenic region of Andalucía, with olive trees stretching as far as the eye can see.
After a short introduction at the property, we are ready for the first of six hide sessions, where the main target will be the Iberian Lynx. This session will run from about 4p.m. to about 8p.m. Dinner is prepared and served after the session.
Meals: Dinner
Day 2 – Morning and Evening Hide, plus a post-processing session
On the second day, we will rise a little earlier and after a quick cup of tea or coffee, we venture out to the hides for a morning session with the lynx. This session will last from 7a.m. to about 11a.m. Following this we retire to our rooms and quickly download our images etc while the brunch is prepared. After brunch, those interested, can participate in a post-processing session where you will be shown some lightroom and photoshop techniques that I use. There will still be time for a nap or to read a book before we again head out for an afternoon/evening hide session. Again, this will run from 4p.m. to 8p.m. and dinner gets served afterwards.
Meals: Light Breakfast, Brunch, Dinner
Day 3 – Morning and Evening Hide, plus a picnic brunch
On the third day, we again rise a little earlier and help ourselves to a quick cup of tea or coffee. The morning hide session will be much the same as the day before.
However, following this we retire to our rooms, have a quick “freshen up” and then we go for a drive to El Encinarejo where we will all enjoy an outdoor brunch. This area could yield many bird species, deer and even otters on the Jandula River. We have plenty of time before needing to return for our afternoon session. Once again this will run from 4p.m. to 8p.m. and dinner gets served afterwards.
Meals: Light Breakfast, Brunch, Dinner
Day 4 – Morning Hide, and travel home
This will be our final day and we will have time for a bigger breakfast, a morning shoot, a fond farewell and then it will be time to pack up and head to the airport. Brunch/Lunch will be “on the road” and for ease and flexibility will be for your own account.
Meals: Breakfast
What To Expect (A Summary)
Group Size: max 5 participants, 1 Guide
There are 3 hides. One is large and open where everyone can fit and two are small two-person traditional hides. A small group allows for a more personalised and intimate experience, and I will rotate amongst all the participants as much as possible. I aim to be available to all the participants throughout the tour and will assist with any question that may arise.
Where we meet:
Malaga Airport in Spain departing from there via car @ 13:00
What to bring (this will not be provided by your host)
Your photographic equipment - check recommendations
Any medication you may need for the duration of the tour.
We will be sheltered by the hides, but may be able to explore on foot so adverse weather may be something we need to be concerned with - please bring what you would consider to be suitable clothing, but generally this area of Spain is warm to hot at this time of year.
Optional: Binoculars
NOTE: You will NOT sleep in the hide. A comfortable bed and wonderful lodge await you every night!
Walking during the workshop
There may be some short walks when approaching the hides and you may want to explore some of the areas close to the lodging, on foot. Apart from this, there should be no further strenuous walking.
Transportation and Parking
Transfers between the airport (Malaga) and the guest house is included. As is the transportation from the guesthouse to the hides. We don't envisage that any other transportation may be required.
